Winter Golf

In the United Kingdom, in the eyes of many the golf season has almost come to an end. But don’t despair, there are still many things that you can do to improve your golf game!

The Driving Range

A great deal of golfers underestimate the importance of the driving range. Many see it as a substitute to the golf course and a place to practice there shots.

Which it is, but like many tools it has to be used properly. There are many golfers who go to the driving range and use it as a whole substitute to the golf course, and they think they are getting the “good practice”. However contrary to belief, it is much better to practice on the actual golf course! You get more of a feel for the distance that each club can go, instead of getting artificial plastic grass you get the real thing!

After all of this, in some situations we as golfers have no choice especially when all the forces of Mother Nature are against us. During the depths of winter, the driving range should become your best friend. The purpose of the driving range is so that you do not loose that “touch” that you have been practicing all summer to get. It is just to make sure that you still have that perfect golf swing, ticking over every now and again.

Exercise

The vast majority of people perceive golf to be a game of, “walking around and hitting balls”, and that is it! No strenuous exercise involved merely taking a swing at the golf ball. However as us golfers know golf is a lot more than just taking a swing at the golf ball.

Exercise plays an important to part in the overall golf swing. The Golf Swing is a rotary motion utilising mainly the hips. A golfer should work on building up their back and arm muscles. If you want to gradually improve your golf game, arm and back exercises should be part of your golf improvement plan – no matter what the season maybe.

Take a Holiday!

Yes, what it says take a holiday - a golfing holiday to be precise. When planning your Christmas holiday, look for places that have golf course or facilities. There are many golf holiday hot spots such as Spain, Portugal, and America. Have a look around at your local travel agent to see what packages are available.

Playing at different golf courses will help you adjust to the terrain and give you the excitement of playing a new golf course.
